Product description: In the mid-1970s, and although they were completely satisfied with the Re 4/4 '', Re 4/4 '' 'and Re 6/6, the SBB wanted to increase the performance and the speed of their locomotives and at the same time with little Wear and tear improve adhesion. This endeavor was made possible by the thyristor control and a new drive.
The 4 prototypes Re 4 / 4IV 11101 to 11104 were ordered in 1978 and delivered in the first semester of 1982. With a number of innovations, they represented a milestone in the history of SBB: ribbed reinforced side walls for a weight saving of 30%, aerodynamic shape and a new color. Different colors were tested on each half of the 10101 and 10104, so these 4 prototypes had 6 different color variations. From 1986 to 1992 these 4 locomotives with the Bahn2000 livery rolled through the country before they received the uniform red SBB dress, which gave a foretaste of the 460 and finally passed to the SOB at the end of 1994.
With the RAe TEE II, these were the first locomotives that reached speeds of up to 160 km / h. They ran renowned trains such as the TEE Cisalpin and Lemano. In December 1986 the 10101 set the Swiss speed record with 188 km / h. The locomotives were stationed in Zurich and crossed Switzerland from west to east and traveled on the BLS line. They were even used on the Gotthard Line.
However, these prototypes did not result in a series order, primarily for economic reasons, and also because the asynchronous motor had meanwhile established itself in the new technology of electric locomotives. Nevertheless, they represented a milestone in the history of SBB and the Re 450 and Re 460 emerged from this experience. The latter became the new universal machine of the SBB.
Modelbex is proud to be able to offer a flawless replica in track I of these very special machines. Naturally, these will find their place in the series of axle-less bogie locomotives of the SBB: Re 4/4 ', Ae 6/6, Re 4/4 ", Re 4/4"', Re 6/6 and 460 .
